About the Maremma Area of TuscanyCasale del Breschi is midway between Siena and Rome, easily reachable by car. It is about an hour and a half drive north from Rome, and the same south from Pisa, each of which have direct or connecting flights from the U.S. A full range of water sports is available in several of the small resort towns at the seaside. Ferry service to Elba and other nearby islands is frequent. Monte Argentario is connected to the mainland by three causeways and Monte Amiata, an extinct volcano, looms over the Maremma inland. Both mountains offer rugged hiking, and there is often skiing in the winter at the top of Monte Amiata. A natural park reserve protects much of the Maremma coast to the north. Direct train service from Orbetello provides easy access to Rome, Pisa, the Cinque Terre, and Italian Riviera and connections to other areas of the country. A car is essential to take advantage of the area. Most of the major car rental companies have offices and pick up points at airports. » See a map of the Argentario / Maremma area of Tuscany » See our guide to Tuscany for more information on the Maremma including beaches and parks and towns to visit.
